With simplicity and wonder, Zen means discovering the true nature of reality. But to truly understand Zen, you must try it for yourself.
If you’re new to Zen or our community, we invite you to join us for an Introduction to Zen session. Although there are many books and videos out there that teach meditation technique, we’ve found that the best way to learn how to meditate, is in person with a trained teacher, where you can receive personal and relevant guidance. We have two options available:
- Every Tuesday night is Guest Night, starting at 6:25pm, where we offer a half-hour orientation that will teach you the basics about seated meditation, and our Zen practice tradition. Following this introduction, you are welcome to then stay for our regular evening Group Meditation that begins at 7pm.
- We also offer a longer Fundamentals of Zen Workshop every other month that will give you more detailed information about how to practice with the body, breath and mind, and introduce you to other practice forms such as chanting, walking meditation and bowing. There is ample opportunity to ask questions and try different techniques. All kinds of body types and physical conditions can access this ancient tradition of meditation. Working with one of our teachers, we help to make it as comfortable and practical as possible.
If you’re the type of person that likes to jump in with both feet, you are also welcome to come to any of our practice times and just join in. Welcome to our sangha and our practice home.
Please wear comfortable clothing such as T-shirts, loose-fitting long pants and socks. In cooler weather, you might also bring a sweater. Muted tones are preferred.
There is never a charge for regularly scheduled practice, although donations are gratefully accepted.
